Having a smart phone, you need to be careful. It is extremely easy to break the screens on them. I honestly woke up the a few weeks ago and mine had a nice crack running across it. No idea how it was done except that perhaps it happened in my pocket. It still worked, and after the problems I had last time setting up the phones and spending hours of my time, I was apprehensive about going through the process again even though I bought the service policy from Best Buy which covers damage like that.
I was at a Best Buy this past weekend, checking out Apple Ipads and I asked the clerk how long it would take to get my broken screen fixed. He said 3 or 4 days. I figured I could live without my phone for that long so I agreed and he went through his process (which took about an hour and a half, setting up a loaner phone that wasn’t a smart phone). After that, I went to the Geek squad to finish things and he told me it would be 4 to 6 weeks. I was told by the Geek Squad that no Best Buy anywhere had smart phone loaners. Contrary to this, the guy in the phone section said their smart phone loaner was already loaned out. I’m not shocked that there are different versions to the story. In fact, I’d be shocked if I could just walk out of their with my phone fixed.
The bastards burned me again. I spent way too much time there dealing with that. At this point, I need the GPS Google Maps for my driving as I drive a truck for my job and I rely on the mapping function to get around. I’m also a webmaster so I have many email accounts that I monitor every day for my clients. As much as it pains me to say this, I can’t really be without the smart phone for that long. I don’t know if it is an addiction or not, but I can’t do my job well without it. And what about Words with Friends? OK, I can live without this one but it is still fun.
Since my phone is still working I kept it and was told to keep checking in to see when they make the process for returning the phone easier where it will be 3 to 4 days. My service plan is good until next summer so I have some time to wait. Just need to live with the crack. I’ve got the old phone, and I’m just short more hours of my life because of the idiots that work at Best Buy.
And by the way, never, for any reason, get your Droid X from Best Buy. You’ll likely regret it.
