I don’t usually take photos in extreme conditions out of fear of damaging my equipment, but I took the old D90 out for a quick spin around the house the day after the 2010 blizzard.

I just checked out the results of Senator Marcellino’s photo contest. I came in first place but just missed out on getting the grand prize. I have no idea what that actually means as there was never any mention of any prizes in what I have seen. Thank you to everyone that voted. I’ll update this if there should be anything interesting to come out of this.

Senator Marcellino’s Photo Contest Voting Underway

You can vote in Sentor Marcelli’s photo contest starting now. I’m not sure when it ends so check in out ASAP. Here is the link to the voting page. It is harmless and you don’t even need to register or anything.

My photo is the last one, #64. There are several really great photos in there so pick your favorite one. I definitely have my odds cut out for me to do well with so much competition.

I received this letter about Senator Marcelli’s photo contest and though it would be a good chance to test out the new Tokina 11mm – 18mm Ultra wide angle lens I bought for the real estate job I am in the middle of. Here is a copy of the Senator’s initial email, if your interested in submitting anything. The deadline is tomorrow so hurry!

Submission:

Senator Carl L. Marcellino today announced his Fourth Annual “People’s Choice” Environmental Photo Contest for the residents of the Fifth Senate District.

“The Fifth Senate District is filled with majestic sights; an abundance of wildlife and beautiful waterways. This contest will celebrate the natural beauty that surrounds us and bring an awareness to the importance of protecting these local treasures,” said Senator Marcellino.

As the Ranking member of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, Senator Marcellino is committed to enhancing and protecting the natural resources of New York State.

Photographs are to portray the natural environment and emphasize the beauty of the 5th Senate District. Photographs cannot include people.

Winners will be chosen by vote on Senator Marcellino’s web site www.senatormarcellino.com. . Photos must be submitted by October 26 and voting will begin on November 9 and end on November 20. Those who wish to vote will be able to do so by visiting www.senatormarcellino.com and following the links.

To enter Senator Marcellino’s “People’s Choice” Environmental Photo Contest send your digital photo to marcelli@senate.state.ny.us or mail your photo to 250 Townsend Square Oyster Bay, New York 11771 Negatives or slides will not be accepted. Please submit only one photo per entrant. Photos will not be returned, and may be used in publications. Photographs on paper will be scanned to display on Senator Marcellino’s web site.

Please include your name, address, phone number, e-mail address and where and when the photograph was taken. Entrants must reside in the Fifth Senate District that includes the Northern portions of the Towns of Huntington and Oyster Bay and the City of Glen Cove.

Saturday Photos

Saturday was an especially nice August day. It was uncharacteristically cool and not humid. Rumor has it though that Monday will see a return to the hot and humid weather that defines summers on Long Island.

We started the day at the house, searching for nice butterflies and other bugs or critters that don’t mind having their photos taken. We weren’t terribly lucky on that front, but we got some pictures.

The only butterfly we could photograph. There were others, but they proved to be too elusive for us.

Then it was off to Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and Beach. Truly a nice place. We tried our hand at fishing and were denied again. I wonder if we’ll ever catch anything besides seaweed and garbage. We went with my pal Danny boy and his beautiful family and we had a great time. Here are some pics:
