Most people think the phones stink because they are phones, and their primary function should be just that.  I’m going to need an upgrade at some point soon, and I am leaning toward an Apple iphone.  I’ve got a hunch that because they are a more controlled environment for apps, there is less margin for competing apps.  I’m no expert except for the fact I have experience using the Droid, and when it works it is an awesome tool for GPS/Mapping, Internet searches, games, etc…  When it doesn’t work though, it makes me want to throw it through the wall.

I don’t mind using a Droid OS phone, but I am going to wait until the bugs are worked out before buying another.

I always submit several hundred photos and take several thousand at an event like this.  Here is a small sample of shots I took that weekend.

I use WordPress almost exclusively for my sites. I upgraded on two different hosts previously, and both worked fine using WordPress’s convenient automatic upgrade. I do have a site that I created for a client that is hosted by web.com, and that is the site that is causing me all sorts of problems. I’ve already encountered tech staff that are clueless. I am currently waiting on the phone, for nearly 25 minutes now so I figured writing a post about these guys and the ‘commitment’ to customer service would be appropriate. I spent the morning doing the same thing. So far I’m about 3 hours in, and no resolution.

The problem is that the host doesn’t use the latest version of PHP. WordPress requires PHP 5.2.4 or greater now, and doesn’t work on the version web.com is using now (5.2.14). Web.com can’t come up with a solution to use the most popular CMS with their hosting. It’s becoming frustratingly clear that they aren’t going to answer their customer service phone line. Their pre-recorded message keeps looping in the background and mocking me – “Your satisfaction is our first priority, please hold and your call will be answered in the order it was received”. How about this web.com. Your customer service gets a big fat “F’ in my book. My satisfaction could not be any lower, and if after all of this, you can’t figure things out, I am going to happily switch my client to a reliable, satisfaction oriented host that isn’t about lip-service. By the way, I’m still on hold. 32 minutes now. Just ridiculous… You would think with their $19.99 domain renewals they could afford to pay for staffing. These guys are a rip off too boot… Just ridiculous…

Here is the letter:

My wife came to me with a letter saying that she had filled something out online and they wanted her to be their “secret shopper”. They also enclosed a check for $1,995 made out to my wife. The check looks real, but it is too good to be true. Read the letter. As their secret shopper, the first thing they want you to do is to test out Western Union. You transfer $1,455.00 plus a transfer fee of $125 to someone named Theodore Fransisco in the city of Atlanta. That info may be different on your letter, but rest assured these crooks are just trying to scrape a nice chunk of money from your account when you send them the money and your bank takes any money they may have given you back.

The envelope the scam came in was from Canada with no return address, and the bank on the check is the First National Bank A l a s k a. It is spelled out on the check just like I wrote it. Whatever you do, don’t send them any money or bother cashing the bogus check. Here is a link with lots of other folks that received the scam.

The place was amazing and eery at the same time. The path you take is is dark, dank, and mysterious. Slimy walls and indoor ponds add to the mystique of the route. Being in the caverns makes you feel as though you are on another planet or in a book. I’d recommend the visit for anyone going to The Shenandoah Valley that wants a short hike and to spend some time underground. Make sure to bring a good camera and realize there won’t be much light there.

I found that motocross and motorcycle racing is popular there. Indramayu is short of recreational options, but I did see this, football (soccer), and volleyball being played at times during my stay.
