Going to Sagamore Hill proved to be a very pleasurable experience. We got to learn a lot about our 26th president (Theodore Roosevelt) and see some beautiful land in Oyster Bay. The museum about Roosevelt’s life did a great job in laying out his history and really present’s him as a multi-talented man. They wouldn’t allow photography in the museum, but I got several pictures outside.
The Theodore Roosevelt Audubon Society was conducting a seminar in the back of the tourist center and it was great to see the birds they had with them. One day in the future we will go to see the actual Audubon center, which is next to Young’s cemetery where Roosevelt is buried.
I give this place a 5 star rating as a great educational place to take the kids. And best of all, there was no charge to visit. They do offer merchandise, like books on his life and teddy bears.
Sagamore Hill was the home of Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States, from 1885 until his death in 1919. During Roosevelt’s time in office, his “Summer White House” was the focus of international attention. Otherwise, it was the home of a most remarkable fellow and his interesting family.
