Callahan’s beach park is a gem located on the North shore of Long Island in Smithtown. The day I went there with Aliya there were many tents pitched and campers and barbecuing on the higher ground. Aliya was content at the playground for about 2 hours, enjoying the beautiful weather and new playground design. I am really becoming a connoisseur of Long Island child playgrounds, and Aliya is befitting from it.

The nice thing about this park is it is right on the beach and you can walk down the hill to the shore and lounge around or go swimming. You can really enjoy yourself here, whether it be with a swim, playing ball with the kids, or relaxing. This is one of my favorite beaches/parks.

Make sure to call ahead to reserve space there adn check out their website for any further information.

  1. I am curious about the beach. Were there docks a long time ago.
If so, how long ago. The foundations of some kind of structure
are still there. My mother is 75 and she doesn’t remember any
docks being there. Can you tell me a little about the history?

    Thanks

  2. I can remember as a small boy going there in the summer often. I learned to swim there. We lived in Kings Park at the time. That was around the late 50′s-early 60′s. Don’t remember any sort of dock. I do remember a long wooden stairway that you had to walk down to get to the beach that had high cliffs that we used to play on.

The Beach was teeming with life, lots of crabs, some clams, small sand sharks, lots of other small fish, and horse shoe crabs..Parents always taught me to respect the other life as they had as much right to be there as we did, they used to tell us.

Have great memories of the place and haven’t seen it in a long long time..Now living in Southern Californa, I really do miss Long Island..
